Summer 2000 Physics Research

Three new Physics faculty started building their research programs this past summer with the assistance of Davidson physics majors. Their research varies from the experimental to the theoretical: Phillip Stewart ('01) and Dr. John Yukich conducted experimental physics of negative ions; Laura Cupples ('02), Emmett Weindruch ('01), and Dr. Tim Gfroerer characterized novel materials that may be useful in future solar cells, and Tim Valdes ('01) and Dr. Mario Belloni modeled periodic potentials in supersymmetric quantum mechanics.

The students and their faculty mentors were supported by research grants from Davidson College (FS&R), Research Corporation and the Petroleum Research Fund.
