Hyperfine Structure of Rubidium

Tom Haynie, Beth Denius, and Andrew Borleske

In this lab we looked at the hyperfine structure of Rubidium. We looked at the hyperfine structure from the absorption and emission spectrums that the diode laser produced as it went through the Rubidium cell. The Lamb dip apparatus was used to counter the Doppler broadening in the absorption spectrum. From the new absorption spectrum the frequencies between the ground state and the first excited state of Rubidium were found.
