Daniel M. Boye

1993-94 Vincent Choo--built a high frequency oscillator-type thickness gauge for the department's vacuum depoisition machine. Rising senior physics major.Built circuitry and tested thin film thickness gauge oscillator.

1991-92 Craig Bohart--Summer, 1992 research assistant supported by Hughes Medical Initiative. Rising senior physics major. Laid experimental groundwork for his Honors in Physics thesis dealing with the ultraviolet absorption of Carbon-60, or buckminsterfullerene under direction of Dr. William Frey. Participated in summer research program at Oak Ridge National Labs and will attend graduate school in physics.

1990-91 Ford Shippey--initial setup and testing of equipment, absorption measurements on alexandrite crystals. Accepted to graduate physics program at University of Colorado, Boulder after one year of teaching in Japan (JET Program).

Two semesters of independent research. "Absorption Studies of Cr3+ in Alexandrite" talk for Davidson Physics Dept. Seminar, April 19, 1991.

1990-91 Bowe Strickland--built and characterized diode laser system. Received grant and award from North Carolina Academy of Science; has entered graduate physics program at the University of Georgia.

One semester of independent research. Project was partially funded by a grant from the North Carolina Academy of Science written by the student. "Spectral Properties of Dioce Lasers" talks for Davidson Physics Dept. Seminar, March 15, 1991 and North Carolina Academy of Science Conference at UNC-Greensboro, March 22, 1991. This research was a Derieux Award Winner and was published in the proceedings of the Collegiate Academy Vol. 37, #1, p. 120.

1990-91 Melissa Dancy--physics major from Furman University, Carolinas/Ohio Science Education Network (COSEN) Scholar for Summer 1991--preliminary tests on a high intensity pulsed magnetic field source--will attend graduate school in physics at Purdue University.

Summer 1991 COSEN Scholar from Furman University. "High Intensity Short Pulsed Magnetic Fields" talk presented at COSEN Scholars Conference at Duke University, Sept. 27, 1991 and paper published in conference proceedings.

1990-91 John Mullis--research assistant supported by Hughes Medical Initiative--Summer 1991. Enrolled in Electrical Engineering School at Columbia University.

1991-92 Mark Steen--absorption and photoluminescence studies of 2-Dimensional Quantum Well structures. Plans to attend graduate school in physics.
