Highlights for high school and two-year college teachers

Friday Evening:    Tom Greenslade, author of many Physics Teacher articles on 19^th century physics equipment, will speak on "Learning from the Past: The American 19^th Century Physics Course" at 7:30 p.m.  This talk will be followed by a reception sponsored by Prentice Hall.

                              Nina Morley Daye and Chuck Britton will present a PTRA make and take session for high school teachers after the evening talk and following a brief sojourn at the reception.  Tentative time: 9:00 to10:30.  Cost: $2.00 (included in high school teacher registration).

Saturday morning:     Arnold Arons, author of many physics teaching articles and books, will speak on  “Teaching energy concepts in introductory physics courses”.

Saturday afternoon workshops: Note that all our computers and therefore all of the workshops are Windows-based.

1. Physlets, led by Wolfgang Christian and Mario Belloni; limit 16.  See http://webphysics.davidson.edu/physletprob/default.html for more details on the types of curricular materials to be presented.  Cost: $5.00
2. Nuclear Science workshop led by Randolph Peterson; limit 10 Cost $2.00
3. Physics in Music for high school teachers led by Dan Boye; limit 10. Cost: $3.00

Thanks to a special grant from Davidson College’s Dean of the Faculty, registration for all high school teachers at this meeting will be $10.  This fee includes registration, lunch on Saturday and the Friday evening make and take session.
