Quantum Mechanical Wave Packets - revised questions:

Please substitute these questions for the ones posted on the lab webpage in Section 2b:

  1. For the default superposition f(x,t)+g(x,t), measure the wavelength and frequency of the wave inside the envelope and the envelope itself.  Compare your measured results with those predicted by the beat pattern formula.
  2. Calculate the group and phase velocities for the default sum wave.  Now click the forward button and describe the motion of the wave. 
  3. Change g(x,t) to 2*cos(2.6*pi*x-2.2*pi*t).  (Be sure to click the Change button!)  Calculate the group and phase velocities for the new sum wave.  Click the forward button and describe the motion of the wave.
  4. Change g(x,t) to 2*cos(2.6*pi*x-2.0*pi*t).  Calculate the group and phase velocities for the new sum wave.  Click the forward button and describe the motion of the wave.
