Dan Boye
Dan Boye, bass-baritone, has been widely featured as an operatic and musical theater performer and as an oratorio soloist. He has performed principal roles in 30 productions with Opera Carolina. Recent roles include Baron Douphol in La Traviata, Zuniga in Carmen, Timur in Turandot and Bartolo in The Barber of Seville. For 14 seasons, he was a Guest Artist with the Breckenridge Music Festival. He has performed with the Charlotte, Canton, Fayetteville, Asheville, and North Carolina Symphonies in a variety of capacities.
A graduate of Emory and Henry College and the University of Georgia, he is currently Department Chair and Professor of Physics at Davidson College. He teaches a wide range of physics courses including a course for non-science majors entitled “Musical Technology.” He has provided educational opportunities for thousands of public school students and adults of all ages, musical and scientific backgrounds through programs, workshops and lectures. One such program, “The Science of Singing,” takes a systematic look at the anatomy of the vocal instrument and the physics associated with its sound production. He also maintains an active research program in the development of new optical materials in the Laser Laboratory at Davidson College.
Encouragement and support for these musical efforts comes from his biggest fans: his wife Ann, daughter Ellie and son Charlie. Their generous sharing of time and energy make these endeavors possible, better and more worthwhile.
